Michelman develops water-based functional and barrier coatings for paper, film, and foil packaging, marketed under the Michem® Flex and VaporCoat® lines. As brands shift packaging from multi-material plastic films toward recyclable, renewably sourced paper ("paperization"), Michelman's coatings provide the barrier performance needed to make that switch without sacrificing product protection. The coatings impart oxygen, moisture-vapor, oil, and grease resistance plus low-temperature heat seal capability, are PFAS-free with food-contact-compliant options, and enable recyclable, repulpable, or compostable mono-material paper-based structures. Typical applications include dry foods, frozen and refrigerated foods, foodservice packaging, and health and beauty packaging.
